Your Skintastic Regime
New York Bride & Groom has been in business for a long time. Over the years we’ve heard every bridal concern there is. One of the more common worries for brides concerns the condition of their skin on the big day. We’re always here to help, so drink lots of water and start your journey to clear, glowing skin with these helpful tips from The Knot:
Eat Super Foods
No matter what your skin type is—oily, dry, normal or a combo— it craves water. Sure, drinking water helps, but snacking on naturally hydrating foods like watermelon works too. Other super foods for your face? Try grapefruit, cucumbers, tomatoes and kale.
Wear SPF 30…On Your Lips
It’s easier to prevent your lips from getting chapped than it is to repair them if they’re already dry and cracked. If you spend lots of time outdoors, especially in windy, sunny or cold weather, a thick balm with SPF 30 will keep your lips hydrated.
Use Salt Scrubs to Soften Elbows
This is the one thing most brides forget about. Add a bath to your weekly routine and throw in bath salts with sodium bicarbonate. “The sodium bicarbonate will break down dry patches and make your skin a sponge for moisture,” says Zicu. For really tough patches, ask an aesthetician to put a glycolic peel on your elbows when you go in for a facial. More details at The Knot

Timeline Planning For Optimum Radiance
Ensuring that you pre-plan your beauty treatments is vital to your overall success. Leaving skin treatments until the last minute might not give you adequate time to deal with breakouts, inflammation, redness or other skin scourges. Here are some great general time guidelines from Pop Sugar:
6 Months Before
- Start laser hair removal treatments. If you’ve had a lifelong hatred for your mustache or want a smooth bikini line for your honeymoon, head in for your first appointment now. These treatments require six weeks in between each one so every hair (at each point in its growth cycle) is zapped.
- Get that acne, hyper-pigmentation, or rosacea under control once and for all.If a major skin care concern has been troubling you, visit your dermatologist to see what your options are. Issues more severe than the occasional blemish or fine line will take some time to treat. Continue reading at Pop Sugar

Showcasing Your “Back Interest” Wedding Gown
If you’re planning to wear a wedding gown with an open back, you should keep an eye on the condition of your skin in the exposed area. We don’t always see or feel blemishes or marks on our skin; getting into the habit of scanning your back will help you be aware of any potential issues as they arise. When they do, Brides.com has some stellar tips for banishing unsightly “bacne”:
“Bacne is harder to treat since the skin on your back is thicker and more difficult to access,” says Jennifer Linder, M.D. board certified dermatologist and chief scientific officer for PCA Skin. “On top of genetics, hormones, and, of course, wedding planning stress, pore-clogging hair products, tight clothing, sweaty workout clothes and bedding can all be triggers for back acne.” But if you start a regimen early (at least six months to a year before the big day), it’s possible to find over-the-counter products that combat annoying breakouts in time for your wedding.
Spritz on a salicylic acid treatment spray.
While benzoyl peroxide is great in the shower, salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (or BHA) that acts primarily as an exfoliating agent, but also has some anti-inflammatory activity that can reduce oil on your skin. “I generally find it works well as a leave-on product and it tends to complement sensitive skin better than benzoyl peroxide,” says Dr. Shah. “Murad Clarifying Body Spray makes it easy to treat the middle of your back with its 360 degree nozzle — it even sprays upside down.” (Clarifying body spray, $40, Murad available at Sephora)
Slather on a soothing moisturizer.
Acne medications tend to be very drying so it’s important to keep your back hydrated and wear loose, breathable clothing. “Moisturizers should be clearly labeled as ‘oil-free’ and ‘non-comedogenic,’ which means it won’t exacerbate breakouts,” says dermatologist Dr. Rachel Nazarian of Schweiger Dermatology Group. “Look for lotions or gels — rather than creams or ointments — because they are lightweight and will absorb quickly into your skin. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion is a derm-approved favorite. Additional tips at Brides.com
