At New York Bride & Groom, we value quality craftsmanship! A beautiful wedding gown is only as beautiful as how it fits your body. We have the most seasoned bridal seamstresses in our state-of-the-art alterations departments. We stand behind you every step of the way. Your gown must fit perfectly for your wedding day, and we will make that happen!
If you are one of our valued customers that has purchased your wedding dress with us, please call for an appointment to schedule your fitting appointment at least 16 weeks before your portrait date or wedding day. Alterations are not part of the purchase price of the gown. Depending on the work needed to be done, the amount for the work will be billed on the day of your first fitting. Payment is expected before the work can begin.
We have bra cups, bras, and slips in stock, but bring the shoes you will wear that day.
When you arrive for your alterations appointment, here are a few things to expect:
- You will be pinned or “fitted” to perfection.
- You will be given a follow-up appointment to return.
- When you return to try on your fitted dress, most alterations will be complete. However, tailoring is not a perfect science, so it may require another appointment or two, depending on what alterations are needed to finalize your fit.
- When your alterations are complete, please schedule a final pressing and pick-up appointment for the big day! Pressing is done complimentary!

How do wedding dress alterations work?
In-house alterations are available at our Charlotte store only, done by our own bridal seamstresses by appointment — it's the only service here that needs one. At your first fitting you're pinned to a precise fit and given a follow-up date. Most gowns are finished by that second visit. When the work is done you'll schedule a final pressing and pick-up. Alterations are billed separately from the gown and quoted at your first fitting. Raleigh, Columbia and both Last Look locations don't offer alterations in-house — your gown can come to our Charlotte seamstresses, or go to a seamstress closer to you.
Can you alter a dress I bought somewhere else?
Our seamstresses work only on gowns purchased from a New York Bride store — we don't take in outside dresses. Every gown we alter is one we ordered, so we know the designer, the fabric and how it's constructed before it reaches the fitting room. That's what lets us stand behind the fit. In-house alterations are at Charlotte only, and they're booked as part of buying your gown with us.
What should I bring to my fitting?
Bring the shoes you'll wear on your wedding day and the undergarments you plan to wear beneath the gown. Your hemline is pinned to the exact heel height you have on that day, so the shoes matter more than anything else. We keep bra cups, bras and slips in stock if you need them.
Do I have to take my dress home before my fitting?
No — our Charlotte salon stores your gown free of charge from the day you buy it until you're ready for it. It stays in our storage rather than hanging in a closet collecting creases.
Will you press my gown before the wedding?
Yes, and it's free — our Charlotte salon presses your gown for your bridal portraits and again for your wedding day.
