You can enjoy the options of trying on both at NYB&G Charlotte. We have the best selection of the top designers in men’s wedding attire. We have the perfect groom ensemble to suit your wedding venue and vibe. Discover if you are more of a “tuxedo, satin lapels and bowtie” kind of guy or if you prefer a beautifully fitted suit with a stylish tie in a satin-free blend. Either way, New York Bride & Groom is where you’ll find what you’re looking for. Discover more about the differences between wedding suits and tuxedos below:

The definition of a tuxedo has changed over the years, but even the most modern tux has characteristics that set it apart from a suit.

Satin. The main physical difference between a tux and a suit is that tuxedos have satin details — satin-faced lapels, satin buttons and a satin side-stripe down the pant leg — suits do not. Modern tuxedos often limit the use of satin to a thin trim on the lapels and a skinny stripe down the pant leg, but this is still considered a tuxedo. On a suit, the jacket, lapel and pants all consist of the same material. Instead of satin buttons, a suit will usually have bone, plastic or fabric-covered buttons.

Accessories. Classic tuxedo accessories include a cummerbund, waistcoat, suspenders and a self-tied bowtie. However, these days, many men opt for less formal accessories. Long ties and high-stance vests are now acceptable to wear with tuxedos, depending on your personal style and how formal you want to look. Suits are more versatile than tuxes and can be dressed up or down, depending on the accessories, and can be worn with or without a vest. They also look great with both bowties and long ties.

Shirt style. Tuxedos are worn with white shirts that have either a wing collar or a turndown collar. Suits can be worn with a variety of dress shirts, in a solid color or pattern.

Shoes. Black patent shoes are usually worn with tuxedos. Loafers, oxfords or slip-on shoes are acceptable to wear with suits.

Events. Tuxedos are reserved for evening events only, and for formal occasions like black-tie weddings, charity galas and nights at the opera. Suits are appropriate for any time of day, and can be worn at less casual events like business meetings and dates. Read more, compliments of The Knot

What’s Does He Want to Wear? (errr… What Do You Want Him to Wear?)

When deciding on your groom’s attire, another key factor to consider is the type of event you are having. Formal or casual? Day or evening? Ballroom or barn? Take into account the groom’s preferred style — is he comfortable in formal attire, or would he be more confident in something casual? Plus, what will complement your wedding dress better?

Buying is a great option if you want your groom to stand out in a look that is timeless, yet all his own. Classic black or navy can be worn year-round and will always be in fashion; add personalized cufflinks and other accessories to up his game. On the other hand, renting is a good way to take advantage of the season’s trendiest colors, fabrics and patterns; and, you can ensure your groom and groomsmen match to perfection. Is it inappropriate for the groom to wear a suit to the wedding?

Definitely not, according to today’s fashion trends! But there is a great deal of difference with regard to the symbolism between a tuxedo and a suit. Whereas a suit is traditionally worn to the office, at job interviews, and at casual weddings as a guest, a tuxedo stands alone as something only worn on very important occasions. Think of it this way: the bride will likely be wearing the most expensive, most amazing dress she’s ever worn on the wedding day. It’s up to the bride and groom to decide whether the groom should dress “up” to match her efforts with a tuxedo or “down” to make the wedding more casual with a suit.

Your decision between a tuxedo and a suit should encompass other details about your wedding as well, including the time of day you’re getting married and your venue. While wearing a suit to the wedding can make the groom harder to single out in the crowds (unless the girl in the big white dress is by his side), there are times when wearing a suit is simply more appropriate.
